Established in 1993, the NSAA Golden Eagle Awards are the highest honors bestowed on resorts for environmental excellence.
“It is an honor to be nominated for this award by our ski industry peers,” said Maura Olivos, Alta Environmental Center Sustainability Coordinator & Ecologist. “It is great to be recognized for the effort it takes to work as team to produce truly sustainable actions and results.”
Alta and the Alta Environmental Center’s mission is sustainability – to protect and improve the well-being of Alta’s environment, ski industry, and community. Building on Alta Ski Area’s 75-year heritage of conservation and as stewards of privately owned and Forest Service permitted lands it is our duty to ensure Alta addresses the challenges posed by increased visitation, economic development and climate change. The Alta Environmental Center (AEC) exists to: improve Alta’s internal sustainability in energy and operational efficiencies across departments; support collaborative research and environmental education with our external partners; and communicate progress with our skiers and employees. In support of these objectives the AEC tracks the ski area’s carbon footprint, pursues public stewardship opportunities, evaluates and proposes energy projects, and works to develop innovative vegetation management practices.
