Skill Level Descriptions

Ski Adventures

  1. First time on skis. Learn to move and glide with a relaxed stance on the flats and easiest green slopes. (Indoors and the beginner teaching area)
  2. Develop consistent wedge turns and stops on the easiest green slopes.
    (Beginner teaching area)
  3. Ride the chairlift to gain mileage and confidence with wedge turns, stops, and a balanced stance on easier green slopes.
  4. Work on a comfortable wedge turn with more speed, rhythm, and flow on all green runs with a parallel stance at the completion of the turn.

  1. Focus on open parallel turns as well as basic sideslipping, hockey stops, and pole usage on green and the easiest blue runs.

Mountain Explorers

  1. Maintain a parallel stance as more active edging and an integrated pole touch are used to create a variety of turn sizes and speed outcomes on blue slopes.

  1. Intro to off-trail (small moguls, shallow powder). Work on maintaining a centered stance on all blue and moderate black runs as well as consistent pole usage that encourages more linked turns and fall line skiing.

  1. Develop more confidence and the appropriate blend of skills to ski more challenging terrain. Ski bigger bumps, steeper runs, and deeper powder on black diamond runs. Hike and traverse to explore Alta's upper mountain stashes.
  2. Use dynamic off-trail skills to creatively ski everything that the mountain has to offer.
