Message From Alta's GM, Mike Maughan

By Adam Fehr 07-11-2017

For those who don't know, I became Alta's fourth GM and President in early June. I began at Alta in 1990 and was tasked with moving accounting in-house and creating Alta's IT department.

July is a month of transition in the mountains. The high elevation snows are melting, the wildflowers are blooming on the lower mountain and daily the carpet of color moves up the mountain.

For those who don't know, I became Alta's fourth GM and President in early June. I began at Alta in 1990 and was tasked with moving accounting in-house and creating Alta's IT department. Eventually, I became the CFO and have been part of the management team of the ski area for many years. The past 27 years have deepened my understanding and love of Alta, its culture and the people who live, work and visit this special place.

I look forward to preserving the "Soul of Alta" and continuing our tradition of being stewards of our mountain environment in a sustainable manner. I am blessed to have an incredible skilled management group and many, many passionate and skilled seasonal employees to help me do so.

Our big project this summer is the replacement of the Supreme and Cecret lifts with a new Supreme lift. Check out a prior blog post for info regarding this project and look for monthly updates on the project and our other summer efforts.

My personal goal is to communicate with you, our skiers, on a regular basis through blog posts. In the next few months I look forward to introducing some other transitions within our management team.

This upcoming season, we will celebrate our 80th anniversary. I hope you will come and celebrate with us. When you do, please do not hesitate to stop in and say hello and we may even have the chance to make some turns together.

- Mike
