The NBC broadcast crew joined Derek Sundquist, a quadriplegic skier, today at Alta as he continues to live his dream as a skier through a revolutionary adaptive ski developed by University of Utah Adaptive sports. Derek controls the ski by sipping and puffing into a straw. It was certainly a day filled with inspiration.
For February 2nd (2/2), the Alta POD is a two-fer - a tutu racer in Alta's annual Groundhog Day race. Incidentally, no one saw their shadow here today, so we're going to be skiing for quite a while. *Edit:* Did I get the Groundhog thing backwards? It doesn't matter, at the rate this winter is going, we'll skiing well into July.

Ten-year-old Theo Mallo started skiing at Alta when he was just two years old. He lives in Hong Kong but his family comes to Alta every winter to ski. That's his mom, Eva Lind-Mallo, skiing behind him.
This time of year the skiers at Alta start to emerge from their gore-tex layers and fat skis do dawn more festive apparel and straight skis. Closing day is creeping up and "frankly" it's hard to hide the excitement for closing weekend festivities.
