harvesting trees on a sunny summer day at Alta Ski Area

TreeUtah Harvest & Restoration

Harvest, Restore & Replant.

Alta’s forests play a crucial role in the mountain ecosystem by providing habitat for wildlife, stabilizing soil and protecting our watershed. As part of our ongoing stewardship efforts, we invite you to spend a day helping to protect and preserve Alta's delicate alpine ecosystem.

Volunteers will carefully harvest Engelmann spruce saplings growing along Alta’s ski runs. These young trees often sprout in groomed areas with little chance of survival. By relocating them, we can give each tree a better opportunity to grow strong and healthy. The harvested saplings will be taken to Alta’s on-site nursery, where the Alta Environmental Center team will care for them over the coming year. Once the saplings are well-established, they will be replanted throughout Alta’s forested slopes in locations that offer better conditions for long-term success.
