Harvest, replant & restore.
Alta’s forests play a vital role in the mountain ecosystem by providing habitat for wildlife, stabilizing soil and protecting our watershed. As part of our ongoing stewardship efforts, we invite you to spend a day on the mountain helping us restore our fragile alpine ecosystem.
Volunteers will carefully harvest Engelmann spruce saplings that have sprouted along Alta’s ski runs—young trees unlikely to survive in groomed areas. By relocating them, we give each sapling a better chance to grow strong and healthy. The harvested saplings will be moved to Alta’s on-site tree nursery, where the Alta Environmental Center team will care for them over the coming year. Once they’re well-established, the saplings will be replanted on Alta’s forested slopes in locations with optimal conditions for long-term success. Registration required >
