Alta general manager, Onno Wieringa, weighs in on first closing day and some details for this week and our final weekend of the 2015-2016 season.
We had a great first, last day on Sunday with typical spring weather and friends and families enjoying the day in a variety of ways.
This week, as we prepare the mountain for our final weekend (April 22-24), we will have Collins gulch, Sugarloaf and Devil's Castle closed to uphill traffic. Those looking to stretch their legs can use the summer road, Patsey Marley, Wolverine and the Supreme area.
Another catch up item is acknowledging our Alta connected ski competitors for their awesome work this season. Following you will find the results that we were able to gather. Our apologies if we overlooked anyone. Please comment below if you have additions to this list.
- Angel Collinson Voted Skier of the Year by Freeskier Magazine! http://freeskier.com/stories/2015-skier-of-the-year-the-riders-and-readers-votes-are-in
- Megan McJames came in 2nd place in the super combined and 3rd in Giant Slalom at the U.S. National Championships in Sun Valley in March. In April Megan wrapped up the overall North American Cup title, qualifying her for every World Cup race for the 2016-17 season!
- Grant Howard won GoPro Winter Line of the Year. Watch it on you tube - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3TEN4bBwuo - it's awesome! Grant was also picked to be part of the Swatch Skiers Cup. The team’s captain was Sage Cattabriga-Alosa, a long time Alta athlete. They competed 1/30 – 2/4/16 at Grandvalira in Andorra.
