Good Morning Skiers,
My smart phone sent me an alert from Connie and Joe on Tuesday saying Alta was going to open in 10 days. My first thought - I hope that works out for them!
The start of the ski season is preceded by all of the work done by our year-round summer employees who do the unglamorous, yet hugely important maintenance of everything that is Alta. Some of what was accomplished involved efforts in the following areas:
- Lifts: The crew spent seven months getting all of the moving parts and electronics ready for our riding pleasure this winter.
- Power, water & sewer infrastructure: Our ski experience isn’t much fun when any of these things don’t work. Keep an eye out for our three new solar installations.
- Snowmaking: This is a necessary evil in the world of continually changing weather.
- Snowcats & plow equipment: This is our fine fleet of red and yellow. Look for our new green snowcat- it’s electric.
- Buildings: These are great places to seek shelter from our winter storms. Check out our new Sunnyside elevator.
- IT and our RFID gates: This area is best defined as a very complex “love/hate” part of our product.
- Trails & roads: Dirty, heavy and noisy come to mind. But that rock you skied over last season might not be there now.
- Forest & watershed health: Our Forest Service and private lands need help with things like invasive bugs, weeds & rogue trail builders.
I am going to try and pen a few words now and then this winter about things that will hopefully be of interest to you. Thank you for your support of Alta.
