Most of Alta Ski Area is closed to hunting. Refer to the following map to see where hunting is legal within the Town of Alta. Fires are only allowed in developed campgrounds.

HUNTING INFORMATION

Hunters, it is your responsibility to be aware of hunting boundaries within the Town of Alta and Alta Ski Area. Most of Alta Ski Area is closed to hunting. Refer to the following map to see where hunting is legal within the Town of Alta.

Archery season begins Saturday, August 15th.

  • Hunting is permitted no closer than 600 feet from any road or structure.

Current Fire Restrictions

Stage 1: Unincorporated state and private areas of Salt Lake County.

  • No open fires are allowed except in the following cases:
    • In approved fire rings or grills at developed campgrounds or day-use area on public lands that have pressurized running water system; OR
    • In permanently constructed fire pits at private residences that have pressurized water system.
  • Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle, trailer or building, a developed recreation site or while stopped in an area that is paved or free from dry vegetation.
  • Discharging or using any fireworks, tracer ammunition or other pyrotechnic devices including exploding targets.
  • Cutting, welding or grinding metal in areas of dry vegetation.
  • Operating a motorcycle, chainsaw, ATV, or other small internal combustion engine without an approved and working spark arrestor.
