Steeped In Tradition Episode 4 - Lee

Steeped In Tradition Episode 4 - Lee

| 3 Comments | March 26th, 2019 | By Adam Fehr

Lee Cohen first visited Alta during the winter of 1978-79. Four decades later, he has established himself as one of the most influential ski photographers of his generation while raising Sam Cohen, a professional skier and one of Lee's favorite athletes to shoot. The Magnate, the Godfather of the powder shot—Lee is a legendary figure who has transformed powder photography along the way. Lee, this video goes out to you!

Alta Ski Area and Powder Magazine recently teamed up to identify the Greatest Powder Photo Ever Taken at Alta. Lee's photo of Dave McReynolds taken on Baldy Should in 2005, was nominated co-winner with Brent Benson's shot from Chad's Gap.

Lee's influence within the ski industry has been so vast that early this year, Powder Magazine published a jaw-dropping seven-page editorial story chronicling Lee's photographic journey. Check out the slide show of a few of Lee's images highlighted in that piece. Read the entire article here

Anyone that has ventured up Little Cottonwood Canyon has probably heard the term Alta Magic swirling around with each faceshot or high five. Lee coined the term many moon's ago, which embodies the spirit found here at Alta. Support Lee, the artist, and take a peek at Lee's book entitled Alta Magic. These books make great gifts for any skier that's ever had the fortune of floating on Alta's world-famous powder.

A huge thanks goes out to Lee for the endless stoke he has delivered to Alta and skiers around the world.
