A Summary of Local Vacation Home and Chalets For Your next Alta vacation

When planning the perfect ski vacation in Alta, it’s worth looking into the area’s several options for renting a vacation home. This gem of a ski area nestled within Utah’s Wasatch Mountains (about 45 minutes outside of Salt Lake City) has 12 vacation properties that range from cozy two-bedroom cabins to massive mountain chalets that can fit up to 20 people. Although the Alta Ski Area also features condominium rentals in addition to the five ski-in/ski-out, hotel-style lodges with breakfast and dinner dining included, these vacation homes provide more seclusion and a true alpine escape.

More importantly, you won’t be very far from the action. All vacation homes are located along the free Alta town shuttle route—some are even within skiing distance of either the Alta or Snowbird ski lifts. They are a convenient option for large extended families, college ski groups, or even just a few close friends. The easiest way to book these vacation homes is through the Alta Ski Area website’s lodging page. But to get a better idea of what each vacation home has to offer, here’s a breakdown of the 12 different homes by size.

Cozy, Intimate Homes

Manley Ski Cabin: The smallest rental option out of the bunch, the Manley Ski Cabin is a two-bedroom and two-bathroom home located in the town of Alta. This intimate space is fully equipped with a stocked kitchen, stone fireplace, and laundry room to provide everything you’ll need.

The Cabin: This three-bedroom log cabin is organized into three levels, with two dens to provide plenty of space. It also has a hot tub and sauna for soothing sore post-ski muscles.

The Travis Home: Located near the base of Alta’s Westward Ho ski run, this private home has a spectacular view of Mount Superior. The two-story home features three bedrooms and two bathrooms, and you won’t even have to step foot outside for anything else other than skiing, as a grocery buying service is included to provide for all your food needs.

Mid-Size Family Homes

Creekside Chalet: As its name suggests, this chalet is located next to Little Cottonwood Creek with access to both Alta and Snowbird resorts. This four-bedroom, two-and-half-bath home includes two fireplaces and boot heaters for double the warmth.

Glenn Hame Home: Both the Alta and Snowbird ski resorts are within a mile of this five-bedroom home that’s all about luxury and comfort. Soak in the private hot tub while enjoying the scenic views from your bedroom.

The Wildcat Chalet: To say this home is luxurious is an understatement. This 4,500-square-foot home has five bedrooms, five bathrooms, a large outdoor hot tub, steam room, and—the best part—an entire ski room with boot heaters and a place to store your ski equipment. Plus, it's ski-in/ski-out location near Alta makes it the best place to hit the slopes as quickly and as many times as possible.

Black Bear Chalet: The rustic atmosphere of this 10-person newly restored log cabin is similar to that of its neighbor, the Alta Peruvian Lodge, at the base of Alta’s Westward Ho ski run. Other than the typical amenities, such as a hot tub, washer/dryer, flat-screen TV, etc., this home has a spacious deck with a gas grill for outdoor gatherings après ski.

Altabird Chalet: With six bedrooms, six bathrooms, and easy ski access to both Alta and Snowbird, this chalet has it all. It was designed by a lifelong Alta resident to take full advantage of the panoramic views of the entire Little Cottonwood Canyon from Patsy Marley to Mt. Superior. That means you’ll find plenty of windows and skylights in this home for optimum interaction with its outside environment.

Redfern House: Like most of the rental homes in Alta, Redfern House comes with wireless internet, a fireplace, and plenty of room to relax. But what sets it apart is the patio hot tub with a heated deck that allows your group to spend even more time outside after a full day of skiing.

Alta Alps Chalet: Ski purists will love this vacation home because of its location in the Albion Basin, a few hundred yards above the Cecret and Supreme lifts at the intersection of three ski trails. It’s also a large enough space for 12 people to sleep and play.

Large Party Homes

Chalet Day Johns: Multiple families can fit comfortably in this 8,500-square-foot mountain mansion that sleeps up to 20 people. (It’s perfect for corporate retreats, too.) The eight-bedroom, nine-bathroom rental home includes five fireplaces, two hot tubs, a steam room, an entertainment room with a large screen TV, a ski room with boot and glove heaters, and a gourmet kitchen complete with a private chef.

Highland Hame Home: This spacious seven-bedroom home has two kitchens to feed multiple families staying here. It also has access to a free private shuttle to Alta to get you on the slopes in no time.
