Have you heard of the Discrete Peak Series? If not, consider this your education and your prompt to register and start training.
Simply put - the Discrete Peak Series is redefining what mountain running is all about. The premise is simple - start at the bottom of a ski area, get to the top and enjoy the run on the way back down. Yes, the elevation gain is serious. But the mileage is manageable. In the end, the race is as hard as you want it to be - go for the cash prizes or enjoy the views and let the challenge be your reward.
Why did Discrete pick Alta as a location? Discrete Peak Series and Discrete Clothing founder, Julian Carr, put it this way:
"Alta is the most enjoyable mountain in the world in the winter so it makes perfect sense to stage a mountain running race at Alta in the summer! World Class!"
The course for the 2016 Peak Series race at Alta will be very similar to last year's course. The course will be about six miles and feature 2,500+ feet of elevation gain. Starting at the Albion Lodge, racers will head to the top of Baldy via Greely Hill and the High-T before returning to Albion Lodge via Baldy Shoulder.
Make sure to stick around when the race is done. From live music and demo tents to great food and drink from the Albion Lodge, there's plenty of fun to be had for the remainder of the evening.
Important information:
- Race date: July 16, 2016
- Race start time: 3:00 PM MST
- Race length: 5.9 miles
- Elevation gain: 2,545 feet
