You can easily navigate between Alta's two base areas—Albion & Wildcat—by catching the Transfer Tow or boarding the Town of Alta Shuttle. The offerings at each base area differ and will be appropriate based on your needs and skill level. Albion Base Area

Ideal For Beginners & Families

Albion Basin is best suited for beginners, families. groups and students of the Alf Engen Ski School. The gentlest terrain is situated near the Albion Ticket Office and features two covered conveyors for children and beginners. Big Griz, the lengthier conveyor is perfect for those taking their first turns at Alta while the Little Griz conveyor is reserved for the use of ski school students. Nearby, the Sunnyside six-person lift services undulating blue and green-rated trails with stellar views where beginning and intermediate skiers can perfect their turns.

Albion Basin also offers the most efficient access to the intermediate and expert terrain surrounding the Sugarloaf and Supreme lifts. Here, expert skiers can also chase perfect powder turns via the hike-to terrain in the Devil's Castle, East Castle and Catherine's area.

Big Griz & Little Griz—two new ski conveyors:

  • Big Griz: open to the public, creating a new beginner-friendly connection between the Snowpine lift, the Transfer Tow and Sunnyside lift
  • Little Griz: reserved for Alf Engen Ski School, a valuable tool in teaching the basics of sliding on snow to those enrolled in ski school

Wildcat Base Area

Ideal For Intermediate & Expert Skiers

Intermediate and expert skiers typically arrive at Alta via the Wildcat parking lot and use the Goldminer’s Daughter Lodge as their home base. There is no beginner terrain or green-rated trails accessible from Collins or Wildcat lifts. Both chairlifts service steeper groomers, tree skiing and intermediate to advanced terrain. The Collins four-person chairlift is adjacent to some of Alta's best powder skiing lines found in the Ballroom, the Backside and in the multitude of steep, off-piste runs arrayed along the High Traverse. The Wildcat double chair encompasses terrain that is steep, playful and beloved by locals, much of it dotted with towering evergreens.

Wildcat Ticket Office:

Collins high-speed detachable quad:

  • Accesses 1,800 vertical feet of intermediate and expert skiing
  • Angle Station is for intermittent loading only—do not unload at the Collins Angle Station

Wildcat fixed-grip double:

  • Accesses 1,200 vertical feet of intermediate and expert skiing
